Our Mission
/A story made to share/
starboy_bakery began with a holiday tradition
growing up in southeast Louisiana, my dad, Tim, made chocolate pralines every holiday season
he never sold them,
but he would prepare a special batch of his family's recipe to share with loved ones, friends, and neighbors
they were small gifts, but they carried something much larger than sugar and pecans
they carried love
Tim was diagnosed with ALS in 2021
this activated a deeper understanding of my legacy, and it sparked a frantic search for purpose while starting my life independently in California
in New Orleans, food has always been more than food
food carries a unique blend of cultures and tradition & it connects families and people across generations
I now live in Los Angeles, where creativity shines bright, and diversity of people and food is shared in solidarity
starboy_bakery exists today as a continuation of my family's tradition while creating something new:
my pralines are a blend between the Southern soul that I inherited and the California ingenuity that helped inspire me to be my most authentic self
What We Believe
(in no particular order)
1. Food is an exchange of love .
throughout human history, food has connected people across generations, cultures, and the places we reside
recipes are sacred stories, passed from one person to another
every ingredient, every technique, and every shared bite carries a piece of where we come from
we believe handmade food has the power to make people feel remembered, cared for, and connected to themselves
2. Joy should be celebrated without guilt .
life can be difficult as it is
we believe you deserve moments of sweetness
dessert is not something to be ashamed of; it is a reminder to appreciate the small moments that make life beautiful
all of our creations are made to be indulgent, intentional, and worth sharing
3. Everyone deserves to see themselves represented .
as a queer-owned business, starboy_bakery celebrates individuality, self-expression, and the courage it takes to be your best self
we believe desserts should reflect the people who enjoy them
that means creating options for diverse lifestyles, including vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-conscious desserts ( without treating them as an afterthought )
everyone deserves something made with equal care and indulgence in mind
4. We believe in giving back .
my dad is a veteran, and watching him face ALS has shown me the strength of those who spend their lives serving others
veterans, caregivers, and families affected by ALS carry an incredible weight, often while continuing to care for everyone around them
in their honor, starboy_bakery offers a 15% discount to veterans and caregivers, or anyone purchasing pralines for someone who is
* USE CODE "TIM" at CHECKOUT *
there is no application and no verification process
we believe kindness works best when it is built on trust
beyond that, our long-term commitment is to donate 1% of all profits from starboy_bakery toward ALS research, supporting the search for better treatments and, one day, a cure
every purchase helps continue this mission <3
5. We believe in building responsibly .
as starboy_bakery grows, so does our responsibility and transparency
we are committed to making thoughtful choices around sustainability, sourcing, and the impact we have on the planet we inhabit
building something meaningful means considering not only what we create today, but what we leave behind for tomorrow
our legacy is written in the stars, but that can only occur with the prioritization of the environment that makes life possible in the first place
WHY THE NAME STARBOY_BAKERY ?
THE STARS REMIND US THAT EVERYTHING IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING & BECOMING
RECIPES EVOLVE
WE EVOLVE
EARTH EVOLVES
WE ARE ALL PART OF A MUCH LARGER STORY
STARBOY_BAKERY IS A CELEBRATION OF WHERE WE COME FROM, WHO WE BECOME, AND THE CONNECTIONS WE CREATE ALONG THE WAY
A NEW ORLEANS TRADITION
made with the alchemy of Los Angeles
A QUEER-OWNED BAKERY BUILT ON LOVE, RESILIENCE, AND THE BELIEF THAT EVEN SOMETHING AS SMALL AS A PRALINE CAN CARRY SOMETHING MUCH MORE:
A REMINDER THAT LIFE IS WORTH INDULGING IN, SAVORING, AND PROTECTING
* ALL LOVE, ALWAYS *
